between the last entry and now, I have been through one of the worst days of my life. I almost quit, decided against it, and then got fired anyway. So, at the moment, I'm planning to move sooner, if I can get a job, and I'll be staying a few more days. So... yeah!

sigh.

Thank you, Universe, for the one I love who makes each day a festival to which only I have tickets. Thank you for music and laughter, for movies and memories, for old westerns and science fiction which taught me what must be done along side what was possible to do. Thank you for bringing me friends who remind me that live is yet to be fully lived, and that there is much left to be experienced. Thank you Universe for those times when hope overcomes pain and happiness smothers ache. Thank you for my child, who made me the man I am, by needing a father to look up to, and never thought I was less than she needed me to be. Thank you for my grandchildren who remind me that, though things seem hard they can still be done. Thanks for the stars and the sun, thanks for the cooling breeze and refreshing rain. Thanks for the moon at night and the noisy sounds that remind me that I am in the center of great creation. Thank you, just thanks.

I thought it was funny.

For some time now, I have thought about getting a burka. I would like to see how it feels to wear one, to be really invisible to people, and yet not. How it would feel inside one, how private, how individually cloistered. When I mentioned to someone the other day that I'd like to have a burka to see how it would feel to wear one, he thought a minute, and said, "Like a beekeeper."

Cracked me up! Totally not the image I was thinking of!

I started collecting movies because of the fear of Atomic War. How's that for dumb? What I wanted was for someone to have copies of the films that I didn't think would survive otherwise. This was before I heard of EMP's that would wipe tapes and CD's (and indeed, DVD's) during such a war. But the idea was that I would have something that I could use to support my family with if everything else fell away. Maybe that can still be the case. As people cannot afford to go out to the movies, gas prices and ticket prices among other things, I can offer my friends somewhere to go to keep themselves from going insane, and maybe only ask for help now and then with stuff I can't do because of progressing age and such. And maybe I'd do it only because I wanted to have something to give. Yeah, that's what it will come out to, because that is who we are. So, if you can't afford the night out and want to be entertained, call me. We can work something out.

Why not?

I rarely do any kind of writing...generally, I don't think of myself as a writer at all, since I much prefer to read someone else's work. The challenge from Merry Fates (I don't know how to do the community tag...) for their readers today was prompted by the definition of Spirit. They asked us to write or draw something inspiried by that...seeing as how I absolutely cannot draw, this is what came out.

So here ya go... )

Eric and Julie are staying with us the last couple of days and asked me to say hi for them. They would also like as many good vibes as possible for Robin (Pi) for reasons they will explain later.

I am really ticked. More and more things being shown on cable are COPYGUARDED! So you cannot burn your own DVD of something you paid to watch. I cannot burn the "Maverick" episodes I recorded. I would by the DVD if they made it available, but they haven't. And now they won't let me make my own copies. Crap!
EDIT: I have found a place that is selling the complete series for $39.99, and, if you cound hourly rate for my burning them at real time speed, it makes more sense, sometime later when I am flush, just to buy it. I am happy with the Batman set, I hope to be just as happy with this.

90 more bales of hay are in the barn but we will need them. Pony mare is foundered so both ponies will be dry lotted with only hay till all the grass ends it's fresh growth. Maybe sometime this fall. So shots and pain pills for Zazz for the next 5 days at least.
DSL guy and washing machine guy are both due here tomorrow.
I don't know what I got into while picking up the hay in the field but my legs are broke out in itchy little bitty blisters. I knew better then to wear shorts but thought I'd only be driving the truck- ended up helping load the last 18 bales
So it has been an interesting week.
A lot of good stuff going on too.

I must force myself to write. If I do not write, I am not alive.

Excellent Adventure

We leave tomorrow for 17 days of road-tripping...to Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and back to Missouri. We will be camping our way back after picking up our son, who has been gone since the middle of June. I'm so excited to see him. We've never been apart this long. The camping on the way back is to spend some good old-fashioned family time. We are also going to the Bristol Renaissance Festival in Wisconsin and the Iowa Irish Festival. Lots of time on the road and at the campsites, but it will be fun. However, obviously, I will not have daily access to Internet. I will try to stop in at a cafe every now and then to check LJ and e-mail, but if you don't hear right back from me, fear not. Good travel energy from all is always appreciated. Huggles.
